How this is worked out
- On the bank statement a deposit is money in; in the Tally bank ledger a debit is money in. The two are compared by direction and amount, never by column name.
- Entries are matched first on a cheque number, UTR or UPI reference with the same amount, then on the same amount with the bank posting up to 7 days after the books date (change the window under Options). Matches on amount and dates alone are marked Suggested for you to check.
- Unmatched books entries become cheques issued but not presented, or deposits not yet credited. Unmatched bank lines become bank charges, interest or direct credits not in the books. A debit that reverses a credit of the same amount within 15 days, with a return or bounce narration, is shown as bounced.
- The BRS starts from the balance as per books, adds and deducts the reconciling items, and compares the result with the statement balance on the as-on date. Entries after the as-on date are left out on both sides.
- The free tool reconciles up to 100 statement lines per run. All amounts are worked out in paise, never rounded through decimals.
